I met Silvia in 1983 in Florida. She hired me as the project director for CARECO, Inc., which provided services to both Cuban and Haitian Entrants in the State of Florida. This was my first professional job opportunity upon graduation from college and it launched a lifelong career in health and human services. Silvia was a most generous and wonderful mentor in those early days of my career and she continued to be a lifelong friend. Silvia’s advocation and passion to help facilitate the human dignity all those disenfranchised was her spiritual mission in life. In her passing the world lost a beautiful and kind soul, but the universe gained an additional light that will continue to shine upon us. Rest in Peace Silvia. You will always be remembered.
