In 2017, I was admitted for 8 months on the Women’s Inpatient Unit at CAMH in Toronto. The environment is not the most comforting and everyone there is so vulnerable trying to heal from horrible traumas and situations.

One evening I was sitting alone, upset, and just all around hopeless. Silvia came up to me and asked to sit. She put what she was dealing with aside to come and comfort me and support me. We talked for hours. Her words were beautiful, compassionate, and so genuine. Silvia was a shining light in a dark place. The room would light up as she walked in and her smile was contagious and oh so healing.

When she was discharged, she kept in touch and checked in so frequently to make sure I was doing okay. She was the ONLY person to check on me.

I will forever be grateful for the night I was able to connect with Silvia. She taught me to be kind to everyone, despite what you are going through. She taught me to try and be a light for others even when inside you feel dark. She taught me how to live and how to love.

Silvia, you’ll forever be missed. Earth lost a beautiful human being, but heaven gained the most beautiful angel.

Rest In Peace.
